Effects of a Nutritional Deficiency of Unsaturated Fats on the Distribution of Fatty Acids in Rat Liver Mitochondrial Phospholipids.

چکیده
The fatty acid composition of liver mitochondrial phospholipids from rats rendered deficient in essential unsaturated fatty acids has been determined, and compared with that of rats fed a diet containing corn oil. In addition to marked reductions in the amounts of linoleic and arachidonic acids esterified a t the &position of ethanolamine-, inositol-, and choline glycerophosphatides, the deficiency resulted in extensive changes in the distribution of saturated acids at both the aand @-positions. Palmitoleic and oleic acids were increased in amount in fat deficiency, and large amounts of docosatrienoic acids appeared in these three phospholipids. The fatty acids of the sphingomyelins were not altered as a result of essential fatty acid deficiency. The data demonstrate that each phospholipid is unique in the way in which its fatty acid moieties change in response to feeding a fat deficient diet.

Review: Use of Highly unsaturated fatty acid (HUFA) in Ornamental Fish Feeds
Ornamental fish production, like all other segments of aquaculture, relies heavily on the successful spawning, hatching, and survival of larvae. Little is known about the nutrient requirements of most ornamental fish species. In many cultivars of fishes, such as Ornamental fish, especially in those new Ornamental fish species introduced to the aquaculture industry, the rate of fecundity is an i...
متن کاملEffects of a Nutritional Deficiency of Unsaturated Fats on Rat Liver Mitochondria
It has been known for some time that mitochondria from livers of rats rendered deficient in the essential unsaturated fatty acids exhibit an impaired oxidative phosphorylation capacity (l-4) and a marked tendency to swell in vitro (5, 6). These observations have led to the suggestion that the essential unsaturated fatty acid deficiency results, in the rat at least, in liver mitochondria that ar...
متن کاملEffects of feed restriction and dietary fat type on mRNA expression of liver fatty acid-binding protein (L-FABP) in broilers
Background: Liver fatty acid-binding protein (L-FABP) is the main cytosolic binding site for long chain fatty acids in hepatocytes. FABPs enhance the uptake of fatty acids into the cell by increasing their concentration due to decreasing concentration of unbound fatty acids inside the cell. Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of dietary unsaturated to saturated fatty a...
متن کاملEffect of carnitine supplementation on mitochondrial enzymes in liver and skeletal muscle of rat after dietary lipid manipulation and physical activity.
Effect of carnitine supplementation in enhancing fat utilization was investigated by looking into its effects on mitochondrial respiratory enzymes activity in liver and muscle as well as on membrane fatty acid profile in rats fed with hydrogenated fat (HF) and MUFA-rich peanut oil (PO) with or without exercise. Male Wistar rats were fed HF-diet (4 groups, 8 rats in each group) or PO-diet (4 gro...
متن کاملEffect of Nitrogen deficiency and light intensity on the fatty acid composition of Chaetoceros calcitrans
Marine diatoms are important sources of fat and fatty acids that are considered for aquaculture and alternative energy sources, and under varying environmental conditions in algae. In order to influence the nitrogen deficiency and light intensity of the medium culture on the C.calcitrans fatty acid composition, algae was exposed to 4 nitrogen treatments (25,50,75 and 100% nitrogen) and light in...
